A collaboration for a brighter future.

Grace Mahary, Founder and Creative Director of Project Tsehigh talked with us about giving clean energy to communities that need it most.

“Tsehigh” means sun in the language of Tigrinya, spoken in Eritrea where PjT was conceived. In today’s digital planet, electricity is an essential need. And we’re proud to help meet this need sustainably and with your support.

Grace, can you introduce youself to the Flock?
Hey! I'm Grace Mahary, fashion model, sommelier, and founder of non-profit Project Tsehigh/PjT.

How did PjT start?
On a trip visiting family in Eritrea, I experienced power shortages and encountered heavy duty pollutants from the diesel generators being used for electricity; thus, I decided to create PjT, a nonprofit dedicated to providing renewable energy solutions to under-served communitites.

What project do you currently focus on?
PjT currently focuses on solar energy projects around the world. We just completed facilitating solar powered street lamps for basketball courts in Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

How do you fundraise?
We're a grassroots organization that is supported by our community of friends, family, a couple foundations and corporate donation matching programs. We also love to throw events or partner with sustainable companies like Sheep Inc. to create experiences and products that are fun and support our clean energy efforts.

How are PjT’s projects impacting local communities in Africa?
After project completion in a community, things like the health and safety of families rise, student performances increase, and independence is further sustained.

What inspired the Sheep Inc. x PjT Beanie?
The colour of the beanie was inspired by the warm, yellow sun representing solar power. We opted for two versions, one with a black stripe, the other with white, as these alongside yellow are the PjT colours. We also extended the length of the original beanie so that it could fit voluminous hair and can be worn in three different styles: unfolded, folded up once, folded up twice.

What do you think should be the main focus of the Fashion Industry in 2022?
Traceability! Many companies claim to be sustainable but they have no idea where their raw material is being derived.

Last but not least, how did you name your Sheep?
Pinot (like the wine).

PjT has impacted over 1000 household, provinding over 185 solar panels to under-served communities around the world and increasing the average school grades by 14%.
