The transeasonal style with a hidden heritage.

Our Sleeveless Crewneck is a transeasonal layer. With a slightly looser fit and a split waistband hem at the sides for a smart, yet relaxed wear. Pair it with a tone on tone, or with a high contrast colour-blocked sleeve for ultimate styling.

The Crewneck Vest is arguably one of fashion’s most polarising styles, and one with a very spotted history.

The sleeveless design was born in the beginning of the 20th century out of a need for functionality - keeping the body warm while allowing freedom of movement to the shoulders and arms. One of the first public sighting of the sweater vest was when a team of Michigan high school football players wore it in a 1907 game. Since then the style became closely associated with athleisure wear and by the 1930s it was a staple item.

Whether you were an athlete or not was beside the point, what mattered was the clothing’s ability to help wearers aspire to something greater through fashion. Helping people tell the world how they wanted to be seen with a single piece that transitioned from the playing field to the everyday life.

The sweater vest became a largely misunderstood and polarising fashion item when businessmen began to wear it under their suit to allow more freedom of movement in the office. Athletes and business men. The conservative and the cool.

It created a divisive narrative that was further strengthen by culture and cinema. The sweater vest was worn by both the fashionable and the painfully unfashionable - from Leonardo di Caprio in the Aviator to the Big Bang Theory stars Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper.

It was not until very recently that its connotations were subverted by some of the world’s most notable fashion houses. Transforming the sweater vest from a questionable clothing item to a fashionable wardrobe staple.

Grace, can you introduce youself to the Flock?
Hey! I'm Grace Mahary, fashion model, sommelier, and founder of non-profit Project Tsehigh/PjT.

How did PjT start?
On a trip visiting family in Eritrea, I experienced power shortages and encountered heavy duty pollutants from the diesel generators being used for electricity; thus, I decided to create PjT, a nonprofit dedicated to providing renewable energy solutions to under-served communitites.

What project do you currently focus on?
PjT currently focuses on solar energy projects around the world. We just completed facilitating solar powered street lamps for basketball courts in Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

How do you fundraise?
We're a grassroots organization that is supported by our community of friends, family, a couple foundations and corporate donation matching programs. We also love to throw events or partner with sustainable companies like Sheep Inc. to create experiences and products that are fun and support our clean energy efforts.

How are PjT’s projects impacting local communities in Africa?
After project completion in a community, things like the health and safety of families rise, student performances increase, and independence is further sustained.

What inspired the Sheep Inc. x PjT Beanie?
The colour of the beanie was inspired by the warm, yellow sun representing solar power. We opted for two versions, one with a black stripe, the other with white, as these alongside yellow are the PjT colours. We also extended the length of the original beanie so that it could fit voluminous hair and can be worn in three different styles: unfolded, folded up once, folded up twice.

What do you think should be the main focus of the Fashion Industry in 2022?
Traceability! Many companies claim to be sustainable but they have no idea where their raw material is being derived.

Last but not least, how did you name your Sheep?
Pinot (like the wine).

PjT has impacted over 1000 household, provinding over 185 solar panels to under-served communities around the world and increasing the average school grades by 14%.

“Tsehigh” means sun in the language of Tigrinya, spoken in Eritrea where PjT was conceived. In today’s digital planet, electricity is an essential need. And we’re proud to help meet this need sustainably and with your support.
